ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Kathleen J. Tate is the author of the Melvin and Muffin book series. Kathleen has worked in a few fields, but has spent most of her professional life in the field of education. She has been an elementary special education teacher and is currently a professor and program director/department chair/university administrator.

 

Dr. Tate has a B.A. in Soviet and East European Studies and M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of Texas at Austin, where she also acquired lifetime teaching certificates in elementary self-contained (Grades 1-8), theatre arts (Grades 1-8), and special education (PreK-12). She earned a Ph.D. in Elementary Education from Florida State University.  

Kathleen was Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Online Learning Research and Practice (2016-2024) and was on the Curriculum Advisory Board (2019-2023) for the Institute for Humane Education. Professionally, she enjoys conducting research, writing, and updating curriculum. Personally, she likes spending time with her pets, doing Pilates, scrapbooking, hiking, reading about science and art, baking, going to art/science/history museums, and eating guacamole and cupcakes. 

She created and published a friend fill-in-book for teens and adults, a daily science log journal for children, a blank science-themed journal for all ages, a fashion themed journal for teens and adults, an easy reader digital picture book for young children titled Cookiekins and Friends Go to the Park (paperback version coming soon), and an intermediate reader digital picture book titled No, no, Queso! (paperback version coming soon).
